Don't be fooled just by its simplicity it works. Let's look at it.<br /><br />The 4 week rule is one of the simplest technical analysis systems of all time and it may not be trendy or flavor of the month, with a number of forex traders who think complicated is better - but don't believe that because its simple that doesn't work - it lets you do.<br /><br />Richard Donchian was a true legend and one of the most influential trend followers of all time he spoke and wrote profusely on the subject of trading and has influenced most of the greatest names in dealing including trading legend Rich Dennis.<br /><br />The four week rule has became an effective building block on which many successful trading systems are based.<br /><br />It's good following assumptions about market behavior:<br /><br />1. The strongest trending moves start from new market highs NOT NECESSARILY market lows.<br /><br />Those people who imagine buy low sell high is a great way to make money are mistaken. If you don't buy breakouts from new altitudes, you will miss some of the best trends - period.<br /><br />two. A trend in motion is more prone to continue than reverse.<br /><br />Clothing this is a basic foundation of technical analysis and there is no better trend than one that is making new highs<br /><br />3. A four week cycle could be the dominant cycle in trading.<br /><br />This can vary at times of course but the four week cycle is successful.<br /><br />The original rules were raised for trading commodities and may be summarized by:<br /><br />Cover short positions and buy long whenever the price tag exceeds the highs with the previous 4 calendar months.<br /><br />Liquidate long positions together with sell short whenever the price falls below the lows in the previous 4 calendar months.<br /><br />The original system getting devised for commodities was designed try using a stop and reverse so the trader was always in the market with a position.<br /><br />In the non trading market it may get whipsawed a resolution for this problem is to enter over the 4 week rule (your breakout), and to exit on a shorter time period such as several weeks. With this system, a four week "breakout" may be needed to initiate an alternative position, but a a few week signal in the contrary direction would mean liquidation of the position.<br /><br />The trader then remains out of the market until the next new four week breakout is registered.<br /><br />Why It Works<br /><br />This system is based on sound technical principles with signals that will be mechanical and clear-cut. It can be trend-following so a broker is virtually guaranteed being on the right side of every trend.<br /><br />It also follows the often quoted trading wisdom - "let income run, while cutting failures short". Another advantage is usually fewer trades, which means less moment spent looking at sales and finally you don't even require a computer!<br /><br />People often say technology helps - but also for many traders its some sort of hindrance they think being clever can certainly make them money, well think about this 95% of traders lost 100 years ago and the its the same ratio before yet computers today are usually more powerful than the one mission control useful to land man on the moon!<br /><br />Don't be fooled by simplicity it can also be very profitable.<br /><br />Being a trend-following system, it don't catch market tops and bottoms (but how many systems do that although?) however, the 4 week rule works and any other trend-following system but with the main benefit of incredible simplicity.<br /><br />The Resistant<br /><br />You might be declaring that won't work : well go and try it on a strong trending currency market such as the euro, Canadian dollar or Foreign dollar and back test it and in a number of strong trending markets and you should see it does.<br /><br />Don't be led to believe that if its very simple it won't work - best wishes forex trading systems are generally simple.<br /><br />You don't get money for being clever you get paid for being correct - Period.<br /><br />Today, traders always like to trade something different or obscure but if you want a simple system, by a trading legend, that's hard to overcom - try Richard Donchian several week rule It's been part of some of the true great traders box of tools and should be in yours to.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.everlater.com<!DOCTYPE html>
